West Philadelphia Preschool & Free Pre-K for Ages 3-5
Preschool should feel like a place where your child is safe enough to explore, supported enough to try, and excited to return each day. At Learning Central Preschool & Childcare, children ages 3-5 build the skills they need for kindergarten through warm relationships, intentional teaching, hands-on discovery, creative expression, and purposeful play.
Eligible families may receive the instructional preschool day at no cost through PHLpreK or Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts. Before and after care are also available for families who need a longer schedule.

Preschool Program at a Glance

Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-3:00 PM.
Before Care:
7:00 AM-9:00 AM for an additional fee.
After Care:
3:00 PM-5:00 PM for an additional fee.
Teacher-to-child ratio: 1:10.
Eligible families may qualify for a free instructional-day seat through PHLpreK or PA Pre-K Counts.
A Bright, Welcoming Place to Learn
Learning Central has served West Philadelphia families since 2016. Our 6,754-square-foot center is designed around children's safety, comfort, curiosity, and movement. Bright classrooms give children access to books, art materials, building tools, dramatic-play areas, math materials, and other hands-on learning experiences.
Our large outdoor area extends learning beyond the classroom. When weather allows, children have space to move, build coordination, explore nature, play cooperatively, and practice healthy habits.
As a Keystone STAR 4 program, Learning Central combines a high-quality learning environment with teachers who are committed to each child's growth. Families often tell us they value the quality of the program and the environment children experience each day.

Learning That Builds the Whole Child
Our curriculum is aligned with the Pennsylvania Learning Standards for Early Childhood. Teachers plan experiences that support academic growth and the everyday skills children need to participate in a classroom community.
Children are encouraged to ask questions, make choices, work with others, solve problems, communicate their ideas, care for shared spaces, and stay with challenges. Learning is active, developmentally appropriate, and connected to the world children know.
Language, Literacy & Early Writing
Children grow as communicators through interactive read-alouds, phonics activities, songs, rhymes, poetry, vocabulary-building, storytelling, classroom conversations, dramatic play, and early writing. Teachers create frequent reasons for children to listen, speak, draw, write, and share their thinking.
Math, STEM & Problem-Solving
Preschoolers explore numbers, quantity, shapes, patterns, sequencing, sorting, classification, measurement, and early engineering through materials they can manipulate. Science and sensory experiences invite children to observe, predict, test, compare, and explain. Age-appropriate technology may reinforce literacy, math, creativity, and problem-solving without replacing hands-on learning.
Creative Arts, Music & Imagination
Painting, drawing, sculpting, singing, dance, movement, dress-up, and imaginative storytelling give children new ways to communicate. These experiences strengthen confidence, fine and gross motor skills, vocabulary, collaboration, and self-expression.
Exploring Communities, Cultures & the Natural World
Children explore geography, nature, the environment, community helpers, cultural traditions, social studies, and seasonal change. Exposure to Spanish, American Sign Language, and French vocabulary expands communication while helping children notice and appreciate different ways of speaking and living.
Independence, Confidence & Relationships
Children practice classroom routines, self-help skills, responsible choices, cooperation, concentration, perseverance, and age-appropriate problem-solving. Teachers help children name feelings, communicate needs, build friendships, and recover from everyday frustrations - skills that matter in kindergarten and beyond.
Individual Support Through a 1:10 Ratio
Learning Central maintains a 1:10 teacher-to-child ratio in preschool. This helps teachers build real relationships with children, observe their progress, provide encouragement, and adapt learning experiences to individual strengths and needs.
Free Pre-K Options at Learning Central
Learning Central offers eligible funded seats through PHLpreK and Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts. PHLpreK serves qualifying 3- and 4-year-old Philadelphia residents without an income requirement. PA Pre-K Counts uses age, income, and other eligibility factors.
